I ADORED THIS BOOK!
The reason I took off 1/4 of a star is because I thought the beginning was a bit slow. I tried reading this a few months ago and stopped after a few chapters, but I tried again this time through a buddy read with Kate from Kate Reads Lit! I don’t know about her, but I had a blast buddy reading this with her and being able to freak out and fangirl with her.

The beginning had a eerie feelings which made me dislike some of the characters. It was hard for me to connect with the Raven Boys at first.
However, the writing was flawless throughout. I read Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls series, but I think her writing in this book was significantly better than in Shiver.

Once I got through the first few chapters, the plot rapidly picked up. There were so many unexpected turns and twists; I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was buddy reading this, but read really far ahead because I couldn’t just stop reading (oops, sorry Kate!)
Although the magic wasn’t my favorite part of the book, this is definitely a character driven story. Stiefvater really makes you fall in love with the characters and creates a marvelous mystery along the way.
It’s worth all the hype and more!

Okay, it sounds like I REALLY need to read this one. I’ve heard so many good things, and your review just made the story sound glorious. I don’t mind a slow beginning if the plot picks up later (it’s so satisfying to see a plot build), and the lines you quoted are beautiful. This review left me wanting more of Stiefvater’s writing, so I may have to go pick up one of her books sometime soon.

I think you should give this a shot! I wouldn’t exactly recommend her Wolves of Mercy Falls series, but Raven Cycle is good 😀

Glad you enjoyed this so much! Haha, so close to five yet so far. I read Steivater’s Shiver but I didn’t like it that much. However, I’ve heard so many amazing things about this series that I’ll give her a try again. I’m just hoping the hype lives up for me!
